Love at Third Sight...

In an earlier post, Davene asked how Nathan and I met. So here is the story...

I was a Sophomore, Nathan a Freshman when we first met in the university cafeteria. I was quietly eating lunch with an "acquaintance" when he came and asked if he could eat with us. I don't have the greatest confidence when meeting new people and I didn't know the "acquaintance" very well either. I was uncomfortable and awkward so without a word I picked up my tray and left the cafeteria. What a snob, huh?! At the time, Nathan's looks didn't impress me much. Because of his bad posture he looked short and he has always looked very young for his age... also he had buzzed his hair--not his best look. Me being a Sophomore and Older Woman, I didn't think twice about Nathan.

A few days later, I saw Nathan again in the cafeteria. This time I was in a playful mood and not feeling so self conscious. When I saw him, I was so surprised at his looks that I just blurted out, "Wow, you're taller than I thought!" (I have always been attracted to tall men.) He just smiled real big and said "6'1." Although he's really about 6'.

Shortly after that, my roommate began asking me if I knew "Nathan," the guy that looks like Tom Cruise. I was thinking, "I don't, but I sure would like to!" (I used to love Tom Cruise before he turned weirdo Scientology geek.) My roommate proceeded to tell me how good looking he was. Then I proceeded to tell her how good looking this other guy was... his name alludes me now... anyway, we decided then and there to set each other up for roommate-pick-a-date. I realized that I did know Nathan so I could easily set them up on a date.

The next day I approached Nathan in the, you guessed it, cafeteria and said "Ummmm, I have to ask you something. We have this thing called roommate-pick-a-date and I was wondering if you'd go out with..... my roommate." He turned beet red and I was sure that I had humiliated him. Come to find out, he turned red because he thought that I was going to ask if he would go out with me and he was so excited and embarrassed he turned red! Little did I know....

I would see Nathan around campus and would ask him about the guy I liked and if he knew him very well and what he was like. He would always come up with negative things like "well, he has a bad temper. I saw him shove the computer when he got mad..." stuff like that. After talking to Nathan several times and finding out he grew up on a ranch, a real life "cowboy" (I thought!) I began to fall for him. My poor roommate. She began to be very mean and hateful to me (can you blame her?) and I knew I had to confess. I prayed and even fasted about it and eventually told her the truth... On accident, I had fallen for Nathan while trying to set her and him up! I did tell her that if she really liked him, then I would quit the whole thing and just leave him alone. She said that it was ok and a few months after that Nathan and I were engaged! Thank you Amy! She found my husband for me! (Although when I get mad at him, I sometimes think to myself "Man, I shoulda let Amy have him!"--hehe!)

In between all of that there was a lot of flirting involved... as his first girlfriend, I had to practically throw myself at him just to make him realize I was interested. He is clueless when it comes to women and I had such low self-esteem, I constantly doubted whether he really could like me. Evidently, he did! It's been 7.5 years since then. What a journey!

Thanks.

Forgive all the typos in the post. I was in a hurry and I guess I just don't know how to spell "roommate!" I misspelled it like 6 x's!

Mrs. Bonnie,
I'm in a hurry right now but I will respond to your question later. Keep checking back ;) A good excuse for me to make you visit my blog!
